The Only Pumpkin Spice I’ll Drink + Iced coffee recipe (Guest post)

The following is a special guest post by PurpleTurtle.

You can always tell as soon as fall comes… The scent of pumpkin spice everything is strong on the breeze. I’m one of those rare women who actually generally hates pumpkin spice and won’t flock to Starbucks on September 1st to order my latte. That being said, when I saw posts on my Twitter feed for the limited edition pumpkin spice Thirteen roast, I was very intrigued. I decided to order some before it was gone… Who can resist “limited edition”, right?

I’m a pretty picky person when it comes to my coffee. I hate anything too dark or bitter, and I usually drown it in flavored creamer. To be completely honest, I was not expecting to like this coffee very much. I assumed it would be too dark and bitter for me or too strong pumpkin spice flavor…

I brewed it before a long stream on Twitch and tried it for the first time while live… and basically had to do a double take! It was so much better than I had been expecting! I still drowned it in creamer because that’s a habit, but it wasn’t bitter at all and the spice flavor was very subtle. I spent half the stream just talking about the coffee and savoring it; I’m amazed I got any gameplay done!

I’m also a weirdo who can only drink like one cup of coffee and then I’m done. Which meant I was left with half a pot of delicious hot coffee and nothing to do with it…. But I came up with a solution for that. There’s no way I was going to waste any of this awesome Thirteen roast!! So, instead, I used a super simple recipe to turn it into iced coffee for me to enjoy the next day. And when I say “simple”, I mean it.

Some people might try to tell you that iced coffee has to be brewed specially or cold-pressed, but that’s a load of garbage… here is my recipe for iced coffee…

Directions:

  1. Take the leftover coffee from the pot (if you have any) and put it into a pitcher or cup and stick in the fridge.
  2. The next day add ice and any creamer/sugar that you would normally prefer in your hot coffee.
  3. Savor.

That’s it! Honestly that’s all it takes to make a delicious iced coffee to enjoy the next day instead of letting perfectly good leftover coffee go to waste. I made this perfect little treat and took it to work the next day. Minimum effort, maximum flavor. The Thirteen roast also ices better than some other coffees I have tried. Some get super bitter or lose flavor overnight, but this one retained its nice spice flavor and didn’t get bitter at all.

I actually work at a coffee shop and felt mildly guilty that I was bringing a different brand and product to work, but this is so much cheaper and more flavorful than most of the stuff we sell at the shop. And for those of you wondering, I did use less creamer the next day when I realized I didn’t need it. I am definitely happy with my spur-of-the-moment purchase, and look forward to trying some of the other roasts.

Now if you’ll excuse me… I have a nice hot cup of Thirteen just calling my name…

Hey, our THIRTEEN coffee isn’t currently available (it might make another appearance during the fall), but this iced coffee recipe will work with any of our coffees and you can find prices for those in our store.
